Bateman Vineyard was planted in 2000 to Dijon 115, 667 and 777 on 101-14 rootstock. This vineyard is on an east-facing slope overlooking the town of Graton, just east of the Jewel Vineyard and is also farmed by the Duttons. This site has well drained Sebastopol series loam soil. The vineyard produces wines with ruby color, soft tannins, red fruit flavors, great depth, charm and finesse.

Grapes were hand picked and sorted then destemmed into one-ton bins. The must was cold soaked for five days and then allowed to warm up and start fermentation. The bins are punched down four times daily until the wine was dry. Then the wine was pressed off into barrel and was allowed to go through malolactic fermentation. It was then lightly sulphured and aged on the lees for ten months. The wine was carefully racked and bottled.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine has characteristics that include high toned fruit of red currant, raspberry and wild strawberry with watermelon on the nose and a touch of acidity. Bright cherry, wild strawberry with a hint of mushroom, sandalwood and ripe plum on the palette with a delicate finish. Ready now and will hold well for years.
