This vineyard, owned by the Duttons, is located at the home ranch property and is known as 'Big Block'.
It is in the Russian River Valley appellation as well as the Green Valley appellation, which is the coolest part of the Russian River Valley.
The vineyard has two clones, the Raffo clone and #13 UCD clone, and was planted in 1994.
Low input natural winemaking techniques were used in the production of this wine.
The grapes were whole cluster pressed and the juice was transferred to French oak barrels (40% new).
The indigenous yeasts started fermentation five days later.
The malolactic fermentation followed with indigenous bacteria also.
The wine was cold settled and loosely filtered before bottling.
The 1999 growing season was very cool and was ideal for extended hang time.
The grapes were picked on October 1st at 24.6 Brix.
Bouquet of ripe pears, honey, baking bread and toasty oak.
This medium body wine has a soft creamy texture with seamless flavors of pear, peach, honey, lemon, clove and toasty oak.
